Sława Harasymowicz

  • A small photograph of my grandparents as young people on a skiing trip, taken just before the war and found by me by chance 70 years later, has fascinated me, the blurred image of my grandmother's face in particular. To re-read her face, my own roots - Polish, Ukrainian, German and Tatar, I ‘re-take’ old photos through drawing and screen-print, images becoming records of events from an unspecified time and place.

Site- specific exhibition, The Old Police Station, London, October 2009.

Supported by the Polish Cultural Institute London and Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Warsaw, as part of Polska!Year
